Penelope Rex and the Problem with Pets – Penelope’s new pet is a lot to handle. This looks adorable!

 

Books for Older Kids/Teens


Listen to This – Two teens negotiating friend and family issues meet and find in the other someone who finally sees them and listens to them.
Olivetti – An old family typewriter tries to help a boy whose mother has disappeared by sharing some of the things she would type when she used the typewriter regularly. What a creative concept!

 

Books for Adults


A Governess’s Guide to Passion and Peril (Trade Paperback) – Book 4 in the Ladies Most Scandalous series. When a governess’s employer is murdered, she teams up with a man who once broke her heart in order to find the killer. I have LOVED this series and can’t wait to read this one!
How to Solve Your Own Murder (Hardcover) – First in the Castle Knoll Files series. A fortune teller once told Annie’s aunt that she would someday be murdered. So her aunt spent her whole life digging up dirt to help her either prevent her own death or at least point a finger at her killer. And now that day has come, and Annie must figure out who killed Frances. This is going to be amazing!
The Last Available (e-book) – An unlikely group of adventurers has been hired to save the world – but they might end up destroying it instead.
Off the Air (Hardcover) – A reporter starts digging into the murder of the last man she interviewed.
Sincerely, the Duke (Mass Market Paperback) – Book 2 in the Say I Do series. A forgotten whim of a marriage proposal brings together two people who might actually have a chance at real love if their secrets don’t keep the two of them apart.

Get Your Hopes Up: 90 Devotions and True Stories for Young World Changers (Nonfiction) – A devotional for middle grade readers.
Not Your Average Jo – A girl is sidelined at her performing arts school for being “too Asian” and her replacement in her band takes credit for her original song. Another student who is working on a documentary about the band leaks the truth. This sounds fantastic!

Books for Adults


Happily Never After (Trade Paperback) – Two individuals start working as “objectors” at weddings when one party needs to break off the relationship but is not in a position to do so themselves. This sounds amazing!
Have You Heard from God Lately? (ebook, March 15) – Devotional focused on messages from the Bible – from God to the reader.
How to Walk Into a Room: The Art of Knowing When to Stay and When to Walk Away
 (Hardcover Nonfiction) – How can you know when it’s time to leave a “room” (situation) you are in? I could have used a book like this many years ago. I’m curious to read what the author recommends.
Really Very Crunchy: A Beginner’s Guide to Removing Toxins from Your Life Without Adding Them to Your Personality (Trade Paperback Nonfiction) – A starter guide to building a “crunchier” life.

No Cats in the Library – A book loving cat tries to find a way into the library. I have already pre-ordered this one. It looks perfect!
Cactus Queen: Minerva Hoyt Establishes Joshua Tree National Park (Nonfiction) – A picture book biography of the woman who fought for the creation of a national park preserve the desert.
The Fastest Drummer: Clap Your Hands for Viola Smith (Nonfiction) – A picture book biography of a “pioneering female drummer.”
Duck and Moose: Duck Moves In! AND Moose Blasts Off! – An early reader graphic novel series starring unlikely friends.
The Critter Club: Liz’s Perfect Painting – Book 27 in this early chapter book series. Liz tries to paint the perfect picture while petsitting.

Absolute Zeros: Camp Launchpad (Graphic Novel) – First in a new series. Three kids work together to save their space camp from a wealthy rival.
Coyote Lost and Found – A sequel to The Remarkable Journey of Coyote Sunrise. Coyote is feeling ready to spread her mother’s ashes, but she sold the book where her mother said where she wanted them spread. So Coyote has to track down the book by going back to the places they visited on their first trip – without letting her dad know she lost  the book.
The First State of Being – A boy in 1999, prepping for the looming Y2K crisis encounters a time traveler with a book telling what will happen in the next 20 years, and he’s desperate to get his hands on that book.
Free Period – Two pranksters are forced to join a community action club as punishment, but they discover a cause they actually care about – menstrual products for the kids in their school who need them. I have this one on hold at the library!
Table Titans Club (Graphic Novel) – A new kid at school finds a home in the tabletop gaming club, and then must fight for it and her new friends when the club’s future is put in jeopardy. I have this on hold as well.
The Enigma Girls (Nonfiction) – Middle grade nonfiction from the fabulous Candace Fleming about a secret WWII program using young women to help the war effort.
The No-Girlfriend Rules (LGBTQ+) – In an effort to solidify herself as a “good girlfriend,” Hollis joins a girls tabletop group to learn her boyfriend’s favorite game. (She can’t join his campaign because of the “no girlfriends” rule.) This is on hold at the library, too!
Promchanted – Two quarrelling teens push through a secret door at Disneyland before the prom and find themselves in the middle of Sleeping Beauty’s story – for real. Sounds amazing!
An Unlikely Proposition – Book 2 in the Unexpected Seasons series. Two young women looking to make their own way despite society’s expectations find love in “inappropriate” places. Is there any way for both of them to have the love they want?

 

Books for Adults


Baby X (Hardcover) – In a future world where clones can be made from stolen DNA, a bio-security guard and her client encounter a woman who says she is carrying the client’s baby. This sounds fascinating!
Finlay Donovan Rolls the Dice (Hardcover) – Book 4 in the terrific Finlay Donovan series. Finlay and Vero plan a girls trip to cover their latest investigation when Finlay’s ex and her mother decide to tag along. I love this series and can’t wait to pick up the latest book!
Kilt Trip (Trade Paperback) – Rivals at a Scotland travel agency find common ground when he creates a private tour for her to places that hold special meaning. I am so grateful to have a fantastic local library – this one is on hold too.
Lady Charlotte Always Gets Her Man (Trade Paperback) – A woman hopes to break an unwanted betrothal by proving her fiancé is a killer – and she wants his brother to help her do just that. But he has his own secrets to protect. This sounds amazing!
Listen for the Lie (Hardcover) – A woman once suspected of her best friend’s murder must open old wounds when a true crime podcast decides to dig into the unsolved case and find a killer.
Take Two Birdie Maxwell (Trade Paperback) – A Hollywood star in need of a career boost finds a letter from an ex who said he wanted her back. But the letter is unsigned. A reporter looking for a career boost as well, goes along on her quest to find the letter writer so he can tell the story – while keeping his own long-time crush on her a secret.
Three Kinds of Lucky (Hardcover) – Book 1 in the Shadow Age series. A woman with a rare talent for working with dangerous magical byproducts is pulled in to help with a research project when something goes awry and sends her, and the professor she was helping, on the run. Yes, please!
Let’s Read the Gospels (Hardcover) – A guided journal from Annie F. Downs to accompany readers who work through the four gospels in a month.

We Don’t Lose Our Class Goldfish – Book 3 in the delightful Penelope Rex series. Penelope must face her fear of Walter the class goldfish when she is tasked with caring for him at home for the weekend.
Doggo and Pupper Search for Cozy – Book 3 in the darling Doggo and Pupper early chapter book series. Doggo and Pupper decide to help Cat when their family gets her a new bed and she doesn’t feel cozy in it and misses her old one.

 

Books for Teens/Young Adults


Chaos & Flame – First in a new duology. She lost her entire family because of House Dragon, and now the man who helped raise her has been captured. She’s determined to repay his kindness by saving him. He loyally serves his brother, the High Prince Regent for House Dragon, but the more erratic his brother becomes, the more he wonders what secrets are being kept from him. They are unlikely allies, but also exactly what each other needs. I am intrigued by this one!
Control – First in the Lockwood Trilogy. A new student with the ability to see the future ignores the rules and saves a girl from murder, but he had no idea what the consequences are when you alter the future. I pre-ordered this the first time I heard about it!
Stars and Smoke – First in a new series by Marie Lu. A young spy has to team up with a pop star – and new spy recruit – to infiltrate a crime syndicate. This is a must read for me!

 

Books for Adults


Murder in Postscript (Trade Paperback) – First in the Lady of Letters Mystery series. A countess with a secret – her job writing an advice column for the local penny paper – stumbles across a possible murder and decides to investigate.
Once Upon a Buggy (Trade Paperback) – Book 2 in the Amish of Apple Creek series. May feels guilty and responsible for Carl’s accident, so when he returns home, she’s hoping to ask for his forgiveness. But he seems so cold and angry. Carl was hoping to rekindle things with May, but she seems put off by his scars.
Right Girl, Wrong Side (Trade Paperback) – Once upon a time Evita and Ryan had crushed on one another, but their moms, business rivals, refused to let them date. Now, the rival families find their vacation beach house double booked, and reluctantly agreed to share the space.
A Spinster’s Guide to Danger and Dukes (Trade Paperback) – Book 3 in the Ladies Most Scandalous series. A duke offers Poppy a fake betrothal to protect her and her sister (who is suspected of murder) and protect him from the matchmakers hounding him.
Yours Truly the Duke (Mass Market Paperback) – First in the Say I Do series. She needs a husband so she has a chance to keep her late sister’s three young children. He needs a wife to keep an inheritance.

The Future King – Book 2 in the Emry Merlin series after The Other Merlin (which is still on my TBR shelves). Emry and Arthur are as close as ever, but the king has warned Emry away and Arthur has discovered his fiancée has a secret. It doesn’t take much to persuade the friends to make a trip to France so Emry can seek help for her erratic magic. (The cover design has changed dramatically since book 1. The paperback of The Other Merlin is now out and matches this – which will be hardcover – if that matters to you.)

 

Books for Adults


Ellie Is Cool Now (Trade Paperback) – While she works on a TV show about cool high school kids, Ellie was anything but. So when she goes home to her reunion in order to secure a promotion, it’s not exactly something she’s looking forward to. I *love* reunion stories, so this is definitely on my list for this week!
How I’ll Kill You (Hardcover) – A set of triplet serial killers is in new territory when the youngest actually falls for her mark and decides she wants to keep him rather than kill him. I am super picky when it comes to thrillers – they aren’t always a good fit for me. But the premise of this one is FASCINATING. I might have to give it a try!
The Only Game in Town (Trade Paperback) – When a town’s eccentric benefactor dies, he leaves behind a game of sorts. The winners inherit his fortune. And he’s already set up the teams of competitors, including his grandson and a local who has settled for life in her hometown. This sounds right up my alley!
The Raven Thief (Hardcover) – Book 2 in the Secret Staircase Mystery series after the fantastic Under Lock and Skeleton Key. A mock séance designed to playfully expel any trace of the homeowner’s ex is disrupted by the man’s dead body. The only suspects are the folks around the table – including Tempest and her grandfather. I can’t wait to read this sequel!!
Silver Sable Payback (Trade Paperback) – From the Marvel Heroines series. In order to get Dr. von Doom to stop terrorizing Symkaria, Silver Sable agrees to track down a device that will allow him to see the future.
Star Trek: Aliens (Graphic Novel) – Includes three stories: one about Kahless, one about Trill, and one where Quark goes home to Ferenginar.
The Enneagram and Your Marriage (Nonfiction) – A workbook for a 7-week study to strengthen your marriage based on the Enneagram.

The Recess Genius: Open for Business (Picture Book) – A girl who feels most at home with her books becomes the playground fixer, but that doesn’t leave her much time to read.
Whale Fall: Exploring an Ocean-Floor Ecosystem (Nonfiction Picture Book) – Whale fall is when a whale dies in the ocean and sinks to the ocean floor, becoming home and food for other ocean life. I have heard rave reviews of this book – great for budding oceanographers and marine biologists.
The Cryptid Club: A Nessie Situation (Chapter Book) – Book 2 in the Cryptid Club series. When a mysterious monster starts popping out of toilets, the principal shuts down the school bathrooms. It’s the Cryptid Club to the rescue, so their peers don’t have to hold it any longer!

Books for Older Kids/Teens/Young Adults


Bruce Wayne Not Super (Graphic Novel) – First in a new series. Bruce is attending a school for the super-powered, which leaves him feeling pretty un-super. But when he discovers some students are using their powers to bully others, he’s determined to make a difference. I can’t wait to read this one!
Hoops (Graphic Novel) – Inspired by a true story. A girls basketball team in Indiana in 1975 might have no resources, making their own uniforms and practicing in another school’s gym, but they keep winning! I have heard rave reviews about this one too!
Midnight Strikes – A commoner finds herself trapped in a time loop when the royal palace explodes during a royal ball. Yes please!
The Renaissance of Gwen Hathaway – The latest from the author of the outstanding Amelia Unabridged. When her late mother’s beloved Ren Faire comes under new management, Gwen is initially resistant to any change. The loss of her mom was more change than she can bear. But as she gets to know the son of the new owner, and she cautiously steps into some of the changes, she finds she might actually enjoy them. I cannot wait to read this!!
Whistleblower – A college journalist risks everything to write a story no one wants to come to light.

Books for Adults


The Fun Widow’s Book Tour (Trade Paperback) – A widow struggling to motivate herself for a book tour is rescued by her best friends who plan a tour for her in their home cities. In return, the widow plans to help fix some of their struggles while she’s in town as a way to thank them for their support. Fascinating!
Good Dog, Bad Cop (Hardcover) – Book 4 in the K-Team series by David Rosenfelt. The K-Team digs into a cold case featuring Corey’s former mentor. I’ll be reviewing this one soon.
Love and Other Flight Delays (Trade Paperback) – A collection of novellas set at the airport, including fake dating, grumpy/sunshine, and friends to lovers. These sound cute!
The Love Wager (Trade Paperback) – A new story from Lynn Painter. After a hookup gone wrong, a couple decide to be friends – and wing-persons – instead, and they even make a bet over who can find love first.  Sounds like a winner!
Not that Kind of Ever After (Trade Paperback) – A want-to-be writer finds her angle when she posts a fairytale retelling of a disastrous one night stand. This sounds awesome!
Tell Her Story: How Women Led, Taught, and Ministered in the Early Church (Trade Paperback) – Explore the many ways women were active parts of the early Christian church. I  heard Dr. Nijay Gupta speak a couple years ago on this very topic. I can’t wait to dig into this one! I’ll be reviewing it soon.

Stink: Superhero Superfan – Book 13 in the series. Stink discovers a new superhero when he finds some comics at a yard sale.

 

Books for Older Kids/Teens/Young Adults


Squished (Graphic Novel) – A girl in a large family is looking for some space of her own.
The Tapestry of Tales – Book 2 in the Unraveled series. Just as Cia is wrestling with her desire to be cool and fit in at school she discovers the Evil Queen’s latest plot. This sounds like a fun series!
What Do We Know About the Roswell Incident? 
What Is the Story of Captain Picard?
The Jump – The latest from Brittney Morris. When a vigilante group hijacks a scavenger hunting forum offering a life-changing prize, four teens see it as a chance to change the future for their families and their community.
Missing Clarissa – Twenty years after Clarissa goes missing without a trace from a party in the woods, two teens start a true crime podcast, determined to find out what really happened all those years ago.
Rosewood: A Midsummer Meet Cute – A Sense and Sensibility retelling at a camp where kids are being scouted for a Bridgerton-type TV show.
Royal Blood – The King of England’s somewhat secret illegitimate daughter is outed to the press and then becomes a suspect in a murder. I’m super excited about this one!
Teen Titans: Robin (Graphic Novel) – Book 4 in the Teen Titans series by Kami Garcia. Damian has teamed up with Raven, Garth, and Maxine to dodge Slade Wilson and HIVE. It’s FINALLY HERE!!! I pre-ordered this almost a year ago. I cannot wait!

 

Books for Adults


Conquer the Kingdom (Trade Paperback) – The third and final book in the Gargoyle Queen series, the excellent follow up to the Crown of Shards series. While I am THRILLED this book is out, it’s also a little bittersweet knowing it’s the end of new content in this world that I adore. As a gladiator contest comes to Andvari, it’s making it harder for Gemma to determine who is friend and who is foe while she hunts for the one who is trying to destroy her family and her kingdom.
Final Draft (Trade Paperback) – First book in the new Olivia Lively Mystery series. A graduate student asks private investigator Olivia Lively to prove his professor stole his manuscript.
Mr. & Mrs. Witch (Trade Paperback) – Just as Savvy and Griffin are about to get married they discover they are spies in rival agencies that now want them to kill each other to prove their loyalty. I reviewed this last week – it’s so fun!
Queen of Deception (Trade Paperback) – From the Marvel Legends of Asgard series. Hela, Lady Sif, and a valkyrie are drawn to a burst of magic in Elizabethan-era Midgard, but the magic has also attracted the attention of a group of Dark Elves.
The Ultimate Infographic Guide to the Bible (Hardcover) – A visual resource on the Bible.

It’s the last release week of March, and April is right around the corner. Let’s see what new books are on my radar this week!

Books for Older Kids/Teens/Young Adults


A Darkening of Dragons (April 1) – A disgraced boy, a girl cursed to live as a rat, and a dracogriff team up against the Piper of Hamelyn.
Always Jane – The latest from Jenn Bennett. A young woman begins a relationship with the son of her record producer boss, but when she returns to the family’s resort and connects with the family black sheep, her feelings start to change. Jenn Bennett is my go-to author for YA romance, so of course this was on my list for this week.
So This is Ever After – A sword-wielding hero assumes the throne while his team works to save the true heir. But when they determine she is already dead, he’s stuck on the throne – and therefore stuck with the laws that say he has to wed by his 18th birthday. I’m loving the quest/D&D vibe of this, so it’s on my list this week as well.

Books for Adults


Cheddar Off Dead (Mass Market Paperback) – First in a new Cheese Shop Mystery series. As Willa works to launch her new business, everything goes awry, starting with the murder of the local food critic.
Four Aunties and a Wedding (Trade Paperback) – The follow up to the terrific Dial A for Aunties. Meddy is ready to marry her college sweetheart when she realizes the Mob is using her wedding to take out a target. I got such a kick out of book one, I can’t wait to check out this sequel!
Lost Coast Literary (Trade Paperback) – Something new from author Ellie Alexander. A book editor discovers she must edit manuscripts in order to inherit a Victorian mansion. But any edits she makes to the manuscripts happens in real life – and cause chaos she isn’t sure how to fix. This is fascinating – I definitely need to check this one out!
The Temps (Hardcover) – On his first day, a temp is stranded in an office complex when a toxic gas kills all the regular employees while they are in a meeting in the outdoor pavilion. Yes, please! I can’t WAIT to see what this is all about!
The Enneagram for Black Liberation (Hardcover) – The Enneagram as a tool for Black women to find wholeness. I am the wrong audience for this, but I am intrigued by it nonetheless.

The City of Dusk (Trade Paperback) – First in the new Dark Gods series. The four realms converge on the City of Dusk but the corresponding gods have withdrawn their favor. Four heirs work to save their city. I’m curious about this one, so it’s on my library wishlist.
The Impossible Us (Trade Paperback) – Two people fall for one another thanks to an errant email, but when they try to meet in person they realize they live in parallel universes. Yes, please!
Lifeless in the Library (e-book, March 24) – Book 4 in the Moorecliff Manor Cat Cozy Mystery series. A charity cat show turns deadly. I recently picked up the first book in this series to check this out – sounds fun!
The Recovery Agent (Hardcover) – First in a new series. A recovery agent has to team up with her ex in order to track down a missing treasure. This sounds so fun!
Savvy Sheldon Feels Good as Hell (Trade Paperback) – As Savvy works to renovate the kitchen she inherited, she also starts renovating the rest of her life. This is the one book I have pre-ordered for the week.
