Nancy Drew and the Hardy Boys: The Mystery of the Missing Adults (Graphic Novel) – Nancy and Frank and Joe team up when all of the adults in their community go missing. This sounds fun!
The Princess Who Flew With Dragons – Book 3 in the Tales from the Chocolate Heart . This time, Princess Sofia is being sent away on a diplomatic mission, and she’s fed up with being used for her sister’s political goals. But this mission – complete with exile and ice giants – doesn’t go the way anyone planned. I have this series on my wish list.

But the government decides to cover everything up, and they are left no better off than before. But then they learn of an expedition to the South Pole – where Emmett’s father disappeared years ago – and they are off on another adventure.
Wonder Under Cover – Book 3 in the Real McCoy’s series. Moxie joins the Wonder Scouts to solve a mystery and gets caught up in the hype of earning badges while her brother takes on a case of his own. I have the first book of this series on my TBR shelves. I can’t wait to read it.

Deadly Little Scandals – Sequel to Little White Lies. Sawyer has finished her Debutante year, and has chosen to stay with her grandmother and extended family for the summer, which means she’s at their lake house when the White Glove invitations arrive. While her cousin is thrilled with the opportunity to try to get into the exclusive group, Sawyer sees it as a chance to look into one more mystery that is still unsolved from 20 years ago. This was AMAZING! I’ll be reviewing it Thursday.
Every Stolen Breath – From the folks at Blink YA. After her father was killed by a mysterious, destructive group called the Swarm, Lia has suffered from PTSD compounded by her asthma. But she’s not backing down from finding out what the Swarm is up to and taking them down for good.
The Guinevere Deception – The first book in the Camelot Rising trilogy. Merlin believes Guinevere is the secret to saving Arthur and Camelot, but no one else knows her real name or her identity because Guinevere is a changeling. This sounds amazing!
Hero – Final book in the Monster trilogy and the Gone series about a group of mutants who must take down a new, unstoppable threat. This series is on my list.

Sisters of Shadow and Light – Sisters imprisoned in a citadel behind a magical hedge are shocked the day a stranger passes through the hedge from the outside world. This sounds fascinating.
Supernova – Final book in the Renegades trilogy, a superhero series. I have book one, Renegades, on my pile of books to read.
The Toll – The third and final book in the Arc of a Scythe series. The good guys have disappeared and the series “big bad” seems to have a clear line of sight to anything and everything he desires. Our whole family will be fighting over this book when it arrives this week. We have all enjoyed this brilliant, dark, dystopian series.

Books for Adults – Fiction

The Angels’ Share (Hardcover) – Book 10 in the Wine Country Mystery series centers around a death at a Thanksgiving party and a 200-year-old wine.
The Bake Shop (Trade Paperback) – First in a new Amish Marketplace series. Blind Search (Hardcover) – Sequel to the excellent A Borrowing of Bones. Mercy and Elvis are investigating again when a nine-year-old autistic boy gets lost in the woods and sees something disturbing and a woman is found murdered. I’ve had this on hold from the library for months. Can’t wait to dig into this book.

As the group reads a steamy Regency romance, the other book club members coach him on saving his marriage. Yes, please! This is at the top of my (very long) reading list for this week.
Cast Iron Alibi (Trade Paperback) – Book 9 in the Vintage Kitchen mystery series (with a main character who spells her name like I do!). A girls only college reunion vacation doesn’t go at all the way Jaymie envisions when the group simmers with hostility and a local with an eye on one of the ladies ends up dead. The Chocolate Shark Shenanigans (Hardcover) – Book 17 in the Chocoholic Mystery series. Lee and her family’s plans to flip a house are interrupted when a developer outbids them after their offer had already been accepted. But when a gun is later found at the property – as well as the body of the developer – it’s time for Lee to start sleuthing again. I read several of the early books in this series, and it’s a lot of fun.
A Christmas Gathering (Hardcover) – An historical Christmas mystery from Anne Perry. The warmth of the holiday season is disrupted when Vespasia’s husband Victor is doing undercover work at the country gathering, work that reminds Victor of an unsolved case from twenty years ago.
City of Scoundrels (Hardcover) – Book 3 in the Counterfeit Lady series. A wealthy man comes to Elizabeth’s fiancé Gideon for a new will to provide for his secret wife and their unborn child. But when the man is killed and his new will goes missing and his no-longer-secret wife is threatened, Elizabeth and Gideon try to protect her. That sounds fantastic!
Dead Wrong (Trade Paperback) – First in the new Agatha’s Amish B&B series. An Amish widow moves to Texas to make a success of her brother’s bed and breakfast dream after his death. When she finds a body in one of her cabins, she partners up with her neighbor, a retired detective, to investigate. Sounds fun!
Fate of the Fallen (Hardcover) – First in the Shroud of Prophecy series. When Mathias discovers he is destined to save the world, he grabs his best friend and goes all in. But over time, their allies start to turn away, feeling like they would be better off giving in to the evil forces Mathias is trying to stand against.
Get a Life, Chloe Brown (Trade Paperback) – When a chronically ill web developer is almost killed by a drunk driver, her life flashes before her eyes and she realizes it’s pretty bland and pathetic. So Chloe puts together a “get a life” list, and the super at her new apartment might be just the guy to help her cross a few items off the list. I’ll be reviewing this one later this week.
Kiss the Girls and Make Them Cry (Hardcover) – The latest from Mary Higgins Clark. When the women at a hot, trendy television network start making complaints of sexual misconduct, an investigative reporter starts digging into the story while the company’s in house counsel tries to pay off the ones who are complaining. But has someone gone a step further than payoffs and started killing off those who are making accusations?
Novice Dragoneer (Trade Paperback) – The story of an orphaned teen who seeks entry into a military order of dragonriders. I’ll be reviewing this one later this month. First in a new series.

Smoke Screen (Trade Paperback) – The latest from Terri Blackstock. When they were dating as teens, Brenna’s preacher father was furious to find out she snuck out to see Nate. The subsequent argument between the teens’ dads was ugly and public. When the pastor was found dead, Nate’s dad was arrested. But now, years later, he’s been pardoned and Nate is back in town. Brenna is stunned at the pardon decision but she’s also consumed by her own problems. Can Nate and Brenna find their way through the troubles of their past and present and back to one another?

Books for Adults

The Coloring Crook (Paperback) – Book 2 in the Pen and Ink mystery series. This time, a woman is killed, possibly over a rare book – the first coloring book to ever be published. The adult coloring trend seems to be waning a little, but this cozy series still sounds like a lot of fun to read.

In this book, a couple share an unexpected kiss at Christmas, but they know there can’t be a romance between them as she is so much older than he is. I don’t read a ton of historic fiction, but this series includes some stories that sound intriguing.

You Don’t Own Me (Hardcover) – Book 6 in this Mary Higgins Clark/Alafair Burke series about a producer of a television series that investigates cold cases. I have this whole series on my TBR list!
Consider It Joy (Hardcover) – For those who have wanted to try bullet journaling, but aren’t sure where to start. I’d love to see this in person to see how it is laid out.
Homebody: A Guide to Creating Spaces You Never Want to Leave (Hardcover) – From television personality Joanna Gaines.  Walks you through how to set up your home to reflect your personality
Living Well, Spending Less/Unstuffed Study Guide: Eight Weeks to Redefining the Good Life and Living It (Paperback) – A study guide to accompany the books and a video study
The Passion Generation: The Seemingly Reckless, Definitely Disruptive, But Far From Hopeless Millennials (Paperback) – The millennial generation from the perspective of one of their own regarding the Church. I love books like this that look at the unique characteristics of different generations.

BOOK NEWS: November 28, 2017

I hope your Thanksgiving holiday was restful and meaningful for each of you. Remember, you can check out my 2017 Holiday Hint List here for some book ideas for your holiday gift-giving.

This is another small release week, at least for my wish list. Enjoy this look at some new books releasing this week.

Books for Kids

The Crystal Caverns – Book 2 in The Last Firehawk series, a Branches series for new chapter book readers. You are probably tired of hearing about how much I love Branches books for this age group. But it is still true!
365 Encouraging Verses of the Bible for Boys/Girls (releasing December 1st) – A devotional book for kids. I’ll be reviewing these next week. I will tell you now that the content is the same in both books, so a family with boys and girls could use the books together.

Books for Teens/Young Adults

The Chaos of Standing Still – A teen carries one unread text on her phone – the last from her dead best friend – until she accidentally swaps phone with a guy at the airport. This sounds FANTASTIC! This is at the top of my list for the week.

Books for Adults

Ditched 4 Murder – Book 2 in the Sophie Kimball mystery series about a young woman who has moved closer to her mother’s retirement community in Arizona and stumbles onto a murder. This sounds like a fun series in one of my favorite settings. Looking forward to reading these.
Etched in Tears – Book 4 in the Webb’s Glass Shop Mystery series about the murder of a glass artist. I have this series on my wish list. The premise – with the glass work – sounds fascinating.
Hark the Herald Angels Slay – Book 3 in the Year-Round Christmas Mystery series. In this book, the main character’s ex is found dead. Merry will have to track down another killer in order to get her summer grove back. I have enjoyed this series, and I’m looking forward to seeing what summer is like in Rudolph. You can read my review of book two here.
Of Murder and Men – Book 3 in the Cat Latimer Mystery series about a writer’s retreat. I am a book behind on this one, but you can read my review of book one here.
The Plot Is Murder – First in a new series that takes place at a mystery bookstore. As the shop owner is plotting out her own cozy mystery story, murder shows up in her real life, too. Sign me up for this one!
X Marks the Scot – Book 11 in the Liss MacCrimmon mystery series about an art purchase that hides an old treasure map and leads to a dead body. I’m not familiar with this series, but the plot of this is intriguing.
Star Trek Prometheus Fire with Fire – This looks like the first in a new series from the folks at Star Trek, focused on the U. S. S. Prometheus. I’m curious about this one as it does not have any long-term connection to a TV series (that I know of before reading it). I wonder how it will do without a stable of familiar characters.
Star Trek Titan Fortune of War – Book 10 in the Titan series. Titan is the ship under the command of William T. Riker from ST: The Next Generation. I am several books behind on this series, but I have enjoyed it from the beginning and have the remaining books on my TBR shelves.
Star Trek Waypoint Graphic Novel – This contains issues 1-6 from the Waypoint comic book line. While I collect one line of Star Trek comics, this is not one I am familiar with. I’d like to check this one out. It includes short stories set in the universes of all of the Star Trek traditional TV programs (TOS, TNG, DS9, Voyager and Enterprise)
The Art of Brush Lettering – I am completely fascinated by lovely, fancy handwriting. Probably because mine is abysmal. I would love to learn to do gorgeous work like this. I follow the artist/author, Kelly Klapstein on Instagram. I’m eager to see this in person to see if I would have any hope of learning brush lettering from this book.

This will be especially hard on Ana as her new partner doesn’t understand her “quirks” like her best friend does. This sounds like a terrific middle grade read!
The Magic Misfits – Actor Neil Patrick Harris tries his hand at writing for kids with this middle grade series debut. A group of young illusionists and magicians take on a criminal group of carnies. This is at the top of my list for this week! Early reviews have been very positive. I can’t wait to read this one!
My Life Is a Joke – The latest middle grade novel from James Patterson and Chris Grabenstein (Escape from Mr. Lemoncello’s Library). When Jacky takes on extra responsibilities for home, she wonders where she could find the time for her love: performing in front of a crowd.
Pixar: A Pop-Up Celebration – This small but intricate book celebrates the magic of Pixar movies.
Not Now, Not Ever – This new book for teens and young adults centers on a girl who sneaks off to genius camp for a chance to win a scholarship to the one school she wants to go to. I LOVED this one and reviewed it last week. You can check that review out here.
Faith Journaling for the Inspired Artist – This Bible Art Journaling book is by Stephanie Ackerman, an artist I have followed for years. I have been reading about this for ages as she has compiled it; I can’t wait to see it in person.

Good and Gone – A road trip to find a missing rock star helps a trio of teens re-examine recent events in their lives.  This is from an author I already have on my TBR list; I’m curious to check out this new book for teens/young adults.

Books for Adults

Death in the Stacks – Book 8 in the Library Lovers mystery series – one of my favorite cozy series. In this book, the new library board president is killed and one of Lindsey’s friends is the prime suspect. I adore the characters in this series. I’m so looking forward to reading this one! You can read my review of book 7 here.
End Game – Book 5 in the Will Robie series. In this book, Robie’s handler, Blue Man, has gone missing. But when Robie goes to investigate, things are even more serious than just a missing operative. I really enjoyed the first book in this series. And my husband reads almost anything Baldacci writes. We are big fans and will certainly have this book in our home by the end of the year.
Star Trek Discovery: Official Collector’s Edition – A behind-the-scenes look at the new Star Trek series, available through CBS online.
Star Wars Captain Phasma – Graphic Novel collecting Journey to Star Wars The Last Jedi Captain Phasma issues 1-4. This is not a comic book line I have followed, but I am interested in check it out in advance of the new movie in December.

Diary of a Wimpy Kid: The Getaway – Book 12 in the Diary of a Wimpy Kid series.
Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them (Illustrated) – JK Rowling’s little book, Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them, has been turned into a movie series. Now it gets an illustrated version. This book is NOT illustrated by the same person doing the Harry Potter books. I’m curious to see this one in person.

The Real McCoys – “The world’s greatest fourth grade detective.” That’s all I had to read before I put this one on my list! Moxie’s crime-busting partner and best friend has moved away, so she has to investigate the disappearance of the school mascot on her own.
The Relic War – Book 1 in the new Daniel Coldstar series about a boy with amnesia who works to find relics  and finds one that could change his life – and save the universe. A new science-fiction series for older kids and teens.
Supergirl: Age of Atlantis – The folks at DC released a middle grade novel about The Flash last month, and now they have one about Supergirl. In this original story, Kara Danvers tries to find where a mysterious sea creature has come from and why ordinary citizens are displaying superpowers. I have the Flash book on my TBR; I have high hopes that the books will be as fun as the TV shows.

Canal Days Calamity – Book 2 in the Dog Days mystery series. I reviewed this one here. I loved it and I’ve added book one to my TBR!

Eaves of Destruction – Book 5 in the Fixer Upper series which is the basis of some great Hallmark movies. (Although the books are always better, the movies are quite fun). In this book, a building inspector is found dead at one of Shannon’s job sites.
Every Breath You Take – Book 5 in Mary Higgins Clark’s Under Suspicion series about a TV show that looks into cold cases. I haven’t read any of these, but the description of this one pushed me to put the whole series on my wish list.
In This Moment – The latest in the Baxter Family series. I have only read one book in the series, but several of my friends love every book in the line. It’s Monday; tomorrow is release day! Another small list of new releases as we see November wrap up.  I’m not even going to break things into sections again this week. We’ll keep things simple!

Big Bear, Small Mouse (The Bear Books) – The Bear series has moved to non-fiction books with common vocabulary for young children (colors, numbers, opposites, etc.). The illustrations for this series are gorgeous and I love them! This would be a great book for parents or grandparents of small children as well as for Kindergarten and Preschool classrooms.
Sugar and Spice (Whatever After 10) – Terrific fractured fairy tale series about a girl and her brother who travel through a magic mirror into common fairy tales where something goes wrong and they have to fix the story so the characters get their happily ever after. This story tackles the tale of Hansel and Gretel.
The Charming Life of Izzy Malone – I’ve already ordered this one because I can’t wait to read about Izzy, a girl who doesn’t fit in and has to complete an at-home charm school course because of all the trouble she gets in.
Princess Leia: Royal Rebel (Backstories) – I fell in love with this Scholastic series when I read the Batman and Wonder Woman backstories. There’s also Superman, Supergirl and Harley Quinn. They will be adding Batgirl and Darth Vader in  early 2017. Each book dives deep into the character’s backstory. I can’t wait to read this one!
The Odds of Loving Grover Cleveland – This YA story about four teens at a camp for at-risk kids sounds fantastic. (Amazon is offering it on Kindle for only $4.99 which is amazing for a brand new book.) It releases this Thursday, December 1.
First Degree Mudder (A Pacific Northwest Mystery) – Book 4 in the Pacific Northwest mystery series starring a writer for an extreme sports magazine
Shades of Wrath (A Caprice De Luca Mystery) – Book 6 in the Caprice de Luca mystery series about a home stager. I just recently read the first book in this series, and I liked it. Caprice was a great character.
Flash: The Haunting of Barry Allen – My family of super-hero lovers really enjoys the DC Comics TV series like Arrow, Legends of Tomorrow, Supergirl and The Flash. This book is an original story about Barry Allen, the Flash, from the TV show. The story will continue with Arrow: A Generation of Vipers in spring 2017.
Prey: Book Three: The Hall of Heroes (Star Trek 3) – The final book in the Prey series from Star Trek about the Klingon Empire
Talking as Fast as I Can: From Gilmore Girls to Gilmore Girls (and Everything in Between) – I never watched The Gilmore Girls, but I  know they are HUGELY popular, especially right now. Fans of the series might enjoy this memoir.
Getaway with God: The Everywoman’s Guide to Personal Retreat – This sounds like a terrific resource for women longing for time away with the Lord, whether it’s just for an afternoon or for a longer time of retreat and refreshing.

Happy Reading!
